The Honey Bee Project
Apiaries and Blackberries

Ready to Transfer Nucleus to Hive The key to happy bees is location, location, location. With maximum exposure to the summer sun these bees are happy campers. Out here in the blackberry brier, the bees are blocked by the wind, out of sight from any intruders and yum-yum, those blackberries keep the bees buzzy.
Transferring the nucleus to the hive is quite simple. Just put the caged queen in the hive and watch the workers start marching in.

The queen will be released after everyone has settled in and have become comfortable with the new home.

15,000 Bees
A Boost of Sugar These bees are getting a starter boost of sugar syrup. This is helpful in establishing the new colony. A 1:1 mixture of sugar and water is used. Five pounds of sugar and five pints of water will make one gallon of syrup. They will use this for food (energy) and to make the comb for the new hive.

The bees drink from the pinholes in the lid of the inverted jars.
